4 <br />ORANGE COUNTY FAIR HOUSING COMPLAINT PROCEDURE <br />Housing Discrimination is prohibited by Title VIII of the <br />Civil Rights Act of 1968 and by the North Carolina State Fair <br />Housing Act. In an effort to promote fair housing and to <br />ensure that the rights of housing discrimination victims are <br />protected, Orange County has adopted the following procedures <br />for receiving and resolving housing discrimination <br />complaints: _ <br />1. Any person' or per wishing to file a complaint <br />of housing discrimination in Orange County may do <br />so by contacting the N.C. Human Relations <br />— Commission or the U.S., Department of Housing and <br />Community Development- of the alleged discriminatory <br />act or practice; <br />2. The Orange County Housing and Community Development <br />Department will assist citizens file formal written <br />complaints when requested. <br />3. The Housing and Community Development Department <br />shall offer its assistance, when requested, to the <br />N.C. Human Relations Commission and /or HUD <br />representatives in the investigation and <br />conciliation of all housing - discrimination <br />complaints which are based upon events occurring in <br />Orange County. <br />4. The Housing and Community Development Department <br />shall publicize within Orange County that the N.C. <br />Human Relations Commission and /or the U.S. <br />Department of Housing and Urban Development are the <br />agencies to contact regarding housing <br />discrimination complaints. <br />Adopted 3/21/89 <br />Revised 6/29/92 <br />
