PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO:XX
-----------------------------------------
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: PAM JONES
LEASE RENEWAL Telephone Number -
EXT 2650
Hillsborough - 732 -8181
Chapel Hill -967 -9251
Mebane -227 -2031
Durham -688 -7331
PURPOSE: To consider renewing a lease for the Moody Building,
103 Laurel Avenue, Carrboro, NC.
BACKGROUND: . Since 1987 the County has leased space on Laurel Avenue
as offices for the Public Defender, Housing and community Development,
some DSS staff and a visiting office for Child Support Enforcement. As
you may be able to see, many of these offices will be re- located to the
Southern Human Services Building when it is built. Tentatively that
project would be completed in 1995.
The owner of the leased property has consented to two renewal options:
1. A five -year renewal which includes a 3% per annum increase; or
2. A three -year renewal with a 3% increase in year one and a 4.5%
increase in years two and three.
He has consented to allow us to renew this year with a 3% increase
($33,330 annual rent cost) but defer a decision on the remaining term
of the lease until June 30, 1993. By which time we will have defined
space needs for the new building and can better informed decision about
who, if anyone, should be located in the Laurel Avenue building.
