PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO:XX <br />- <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: PAM JONES <br />EXT 2650 <br />*Xj� <br />Telephone Number - <br />Hillsborough -732 -8181 <br />Chapel Hill - 967 -9251 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To consider approving a six -month lease for office <br />space to be used by the Visitor Bureau. <br />BACKGROUND: The Chapel Hill /Orange County Visitor Bureau was <br />created last fall by the Orange County Commissioners and is funded <br />by a 1% county -wide hotel \motel occupancy tax. The tax was <br />instituted on September 1, 1991. <br />The purpose of the Bureau is to maximize the economic benefit to Orange <br />County citizens of the visitors to our community. This is accomplished <br />in part through dissemination of information to visitors, publication <br />of a calendar of events and to coordinate activities of various service <br />providers such as, the Chambers of Commerce, local athletic <br />organizations and the University, to name a few. <br />
