Linkages With the Community <br />Organization Extent of Involvement <br />Dispute Settlement Center <br />Phillips Middle School <br />Orange County Department <br />of Health will contract with <br />this agency for the provision <br />of conflict resolution and <br />Administrators and teachers <br />will support and encourage <br />the project, providing class <br />time or release tune, as <br />appropriate. (teachers are <br />participating in a separately <br />organized conflict resolu- <br />tion training. <br />A nonprofit, community -based agency, the Dispute settlement <br />Center of Orange County is the oldest mediation center in the <br />Carolinas, and the third oldest in the nation. Its staff of <br />eight and corps of 65 volunteers provide mediation and <br />facilitation services and conflict resolution training for <br />adults and youth. <br />Phillips Middle School, a part of the Chapel Hill /Carrboro <br />system, has over 700 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. <br />This is a new initiative for the Orange County Health <br />Department, the Dispute Settlement Center of Orange County, <br />and Phillips Middle School. <br />Letters of support from the Dispute Settlement Center and <br />Phillips Middle School to the Health Department are attached. <br />El <br />J <br />
