N. MacCormack, M.D., M.P.H.
Director
Injury Control
(919) 733 -3732
We are pleased to inform you that your proposal "Prevention of
Intentional Injury Through Conflict Resolution Training and Peer
Mediation for Sixth Grade" has been funded by the Injury
Prevention Branch for-Fiscal Year 1993. Your award is for $6720.
The proposals submitted this year covered a variety of topics and
demonstrated a great deal of creativity and planning.
Each proposal underwent a rigorous review process. The set of
criteria used to score each proposal included: documentation of
community need, appropriateness of goal and objectives,
appropriateness of outcome and process evaluation methods,
effective use of resources, and likelihood of project success.
Decisions were based on average scores and level of agreement
between the reviewers.
Your proposal addressing youth violence displayed several strong
qualities: 1) community need for the intervention was well
documented; 2) target population is clearly defined and
appropriate; and 3) peer - mediation to reduce inter - personal
conflict among youth is a promising intervention.
In addition, the review process collected recommendations on
improving the project. Plan can be improved by including
objectives to provide support to student mediators, school
faculty, and staff and by having a referral /support services
system for the target population.
The Injury Prevention Branch requires at least one site visit to
your health department during the first quarter of the project.
The Program Consultant assigned to you will contact you to set a
date and time for this meeting.
