-,4 .
1
O RANGE C O U N T Y
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: JUNE 29, 1992
Action Agenda
Item # _-LZr-X
SUBJECT: NORTH CAROLINA LAND RECORDS GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATION
DEPARTMENT: CENTRAL LAND RECORDS PUBLIC HEARING: Yes —X —No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
5/13/92 LETTER FROM SECRETARY ROSCOE REEVE, EXTENSION 2501
OF STATE
APPLICATION TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
RESOLUTION Hillsborough - 732 -8181
Durham - 688 -7331
Mebane - 227 -2031
Chapel Hill - 967- 9251/968 -4501
PURPOSE: To approve an application for participation in the
State's Land Records Management Grant Program.
BACKGROUND: Each year since 1980, except last year, Orange County
has participated in the matching grant program offered
by the State of North Carolina to modernize land
records. Last year the General Assembly saved and
funded the land records office, but did not fund the
grant program. For 1992 -93, the State has made
$350,000 available for counties, and the program is
now under the Secretary of State's office.
The $74,000 grant request reflects a 50/50 split of
$37,000 in State funds and $37,000 in County funds
that have already been appropriated to the GIS and
Remapping projects. Although our application will
reflect $40,000 for cadastral mapping in 1992 -93 and
$34,000 for a GIS workstation, we expect to receive
only a small portion of our request, as traditionally
the grants have turned out to be only a few thousand
dollars.
The attached resolution is required to qualify for the
matching funds.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board approve a
resolution of participation in the State's Land
Records Management Program to receive a matching
grant.
