•
New Ideas For Better Communication
1. EDC Ouarterly Reports - A formal reporting mechanism, that
would focus on specific areas, might help answer questions that
people have. We already do a newsletter that is sent to about
1000 local leaders and businesses, but the content may not be
specific enough. I began doing an oral report to the Chapel
Hill Town Council last winter and it seems to be working.
2. An Annual State of the Economy Breakfast -- I would propose
sponsoring an annual event, probably early September, where the
Commissioners' would share the local conditions with the
community. This year we would present trend data from the
census, business growth, unemployment data and any new major
initiatives. The raw numbers show a very healthy local
economy, but I would also include comparative data with other
communities, including tax base information.
• 3. Elected Official Tours - The EDC is currently planning Y P g a
series of small tours for elected officials later this summer.
The officials and the press will have an opportunity to see
many of the Orange County businesses and speak with their
managers.
4. Welcome Letters - I would propose that for all new or
expanded businesses the five commissioners would sign a letter
welcoming them to Orange County. This would help to keep the
commissioners up -to -date on the new businesses and would be
good public relations with the business.
5. Invitation to EDC Meetin s - On behalf of the EDC Board I
would extend an invitation to each commissioner to come to a
meeting and share their ideas or concerns with us.
L
