Downtown Plan Work - The EDC is working with a mayor appointed
group in Chapel Hill to create new development guidelines for
the downtown core. When complete these guidelines should help
funnel redevelopment into downtown.
Strategic Plan Update - This summer we will begin a process to
update the Strategic Plan adopted in 1989. The plan laid out
64 action items, of which 63 have been accomplished or
implemented.
Publications - Twelve new publications have been created over
the past 2 years and are available to help local businesses and
citizens or new businesses. They range from a comprehensive
Statistical Abstract to a regulatory guide to a variety of
business lists. A complete list is in the attachments.
Public Information - The EDC staff has spoken to 24 groups this
year totaling close to 1,000 citizens. We write a bi- weekly
column for the Chapel Hill Newspaper, a monthly column for the
Chamber Newsletter, issue press releases, conduct press
conferences, place articles in regional media and appear on
radio and cable. Close to 100 articles placed by or written
about Economic Development in Orange County have appeared in
the last 100 weeks.
Community Involvement - To try to be visible, and represent the
comprehensive nature of Economic Development the staff is
active in many organizations including; JOBS Advisory Board
(chairman), Triangle J Recycling Task Force (co- chair), Durham
Tech Small Business Advisory Board, Employment Security Board,
Triangle Transit Authority, Hillsborough Historic Summit,
Public Private Partnership, Chambers, Regional Marketing Group
(chairman) and Orange County Education Foundation.
r 1
J
