r_1 <br />Specific Highlights of Business Growth <br />* 90 -91 Activity - The totals for last year were 77 <br />new /expanded businesses that invested $47 million, created 580 <br />new jobs and absorbed over 700,000 square feet. Highlights <br />included major manufacturing expansions by General <br />Electric, Mebane Packaging, Parker Hannifin and Kam Tec. <br />Relocations to Orange County of Duke Power Distribution, <br />Feedback Inc., and Wellspring. <br />* 91 -92 Activity (thus far) - Through May of this fiscal year <br />125 new /expanded businesses have invested $10.4 million, <br />created 899 jobs and absorbed 718,524 square feet. Highlights <br />include major new businesses; Eurosport, Board of Orthopedic <br />Surgery, Group Insurance Administrators, H & T, American <br />Reclaim and Specialty Mode. Major expansions by Wilmore <br />Electronics, Royal Home Fashions, Major Business Forms, Context <br />Design, Flynt Fabrics, Willis - Coroon, A Southern Season and <br />Aamot Information Systems reinforced the good business climate. <br />* Upcoming Milestones - Expansions will be announced in the <br />next few months by Blue Cross /Blue Shield and the Home Health <br />Agency. BC /BS will be building a new 12,000 sq. ft. computer <br />facility at their 15/501 building. The Home Health Agency <br />plans to start construction on a 24,000 sq. ft. headquarters <br />building at Timberline. Top -of- the -Hill, the new 30,000 sq. <br />ft. office /retail complex, will break ground in July in <br />downtown Chapel Hill. The new nursing home in Hillsborough <br />will break ground this summer at the Meadowlands and employ 100 <br />when complete. Royal Home Fashions will complete their 40,000 <br />sq. ft. expansion next month and a ground breaking is planned <br />for mid - July.. The- American Board of Orthopedic Surgery will <br />open their new 21,000 sq. ft. office building next month at <br />Timberline. The Triangle Hospice signed a contract this week <br />to purchase part of the Meadowlands and plans to build a <br />medical facility at the site. Carroll Woods is now moving into <br />phase 2 of their 14 million dollar expansion. <br />* 91 -92 Major Successes - Major relocations into Orange County <br />in 91 -92 included; Eurosport, a high -end sportswear distributor <br />employing 50 people that moved into the vacant 82,000 sq. ft. <br />White Furniture Plant in Hillsborough, H & T Sales, a double <br />and roll operation that moved into 60,000 sq. ft. in <br />Hillsborough Business Center and has recently expanded to <br />70,000 sq. ft. employing 16, Specialty Mode bought a 35,000 sq. <br />ft. building in Efland and hired 50 new people, American <br />
