I
OR AN G E C 0 U N T Y
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: June 1 1992
Agenda Abstract
Item # VJr- Jq
SUBJECT: REPORT - PUBLIC HEARING OPTIONS FOR UNIVERSITY STATION
DEPARTMENT: Planning PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Schedule - Public Hearing Planning Director X2592
Options
PHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough 732 --8181
Mebane 227 -2031
Durham 688 -7331
Chapel Hill 967 -9251
PURPOSE: To receive a report on the options available for
conducting public hearings on the proposed
University Station project.
BACKGROUND: At its May 4, 1992 meeting, the Board of
Commissioners considered approval of the
advertisement for the May 26, 1992 public hearing.
Included among the items was an application for a
proposed amendment to the Comprehensive Plan. The
amendment involved the proposed University Station
project, a planned rural village. Because of time
constraints associated with assembling multiple
properties, the applicants had requested that a
special public hearing be set in conjunction with
the May'26 public hearing.
The County Attorney informed the Planning Department
that a special hearing was not possible. The wording
of Article 2.2.14.3 of the Zoning Ordinance was such
that principal amendments to the Comprehensive Plan;
e.g., University Station, could only be considered
at the February public hearing.
The Board of Commissioners approved the May 26, 1992
public hearing notice, including consideration of a
proposed amendment to Article 2.2.14.3 to allow the
Commissioners more flexibility in setting public
hearings on principal amendments. The Board also
approved June 29, 1992 as the special hearing date
for the University Station project [see Option A].
