Mebane Enterprise April 17, 1991 Royal Home Fashions expands local operations and. increases By Lisa Allen Business is booming at Royal Home Fashions of Mebane. The company has hired more than 20 new employees since November, and is expanding operations within their current plant. A second shift and a physical expansion of the Plant are under consideration. "Our business is growing," said Rick Norwood, corporate director of human resources in the company's home office in Durham. Royal Home Fashions began manufacturing lined and unlined drapes in Mebane in 1987 with a staff of 125 workers. In just four years, the number of employees has risen to 225, with plans for hiring an additional 45 workers within the year. The 55,000 square -foot building purchased on Oakwood Street Ex- tension is quickly filling with per- sonnel and equipment, Norwood said. The company recently ex- panded and paved the parking lot to accommodate the larger workforce. Norwood said the company is also considering instituting a partial second shift and may expand the building in the near future. "We look forward to a long and lasting relationship with the area and will be keeping our manufacturing plant in this location for. a long time," commented Nor- workforce wood in a press release issued by the Orange County Economic De- velopment Commission. Royal Home Fashions, which is owned by Croscill of New York City, produces pleated drapes, pole - top drapes, valences and novelty valences with tie- backs. The home offices and additional manufacturing facilities are located in Durham and the main manufac- turing operation is in Henderson, N.C.. Norwood said the Henderson plant had expanded three times since 1983, increasing its workforce from 100 to 700 workers in the process. The Croscill product line is sold locally in Belks, J.C. Penny and Dillards.
