Residents have expressed con- cern that underground gasoline storage tanks could leak, con- taminating Northwood's two neighborhood wells. They also have criticized Chapel Hill North's projected impact on traffic ant noise. The ta..Jn council voted 5 -3 Monday night to approve a spe- cial -use permit for Chapel Hill North, but added the gas - station hour limitations despite objec- tions from both Town Manager Cal Horton and Town Attorney Ralph Karpinos. They cautioned against limiting one gas sta- tion's hours when others in town are open all fight. "I'm not sure it's appropriate I to put it anywhere," Karpinos said when asked about the re- striction. Later, Karpinos told council members to state as many rea- sons as possible for limiting the hours. "We can use that as part of the evidence to defend it if we need to," he said. Strom said Tuesday he's not sure whether he'll contest the limits on the gasoline station hours. "It certainly puts us at a com- petitive disadvantage for find- ing an operator," he said. "We certainly were disappointed to see yet another condition placed upon us. But I don't even want to co Timent on what rem- edies mighe be available." t,
