The News & Observer March 22, 1992 � Triangle Hospice raising 1 to purchase new home By TODD COHEN Staff writer Triangle Hospice Inc., which helps care for and support termi- nally ill people and their families in Durham, Orange and Granville counties, is getting a new home. For the first time, the non - profit agency now will be able to care directly for patients at its own Facility as well as in their homes. Beginning in June, the organiza- tion will launch a $l million capital campaign that will take three years to complete. Of the money raised, $1.5 million would finance the purchase of the Mead- owlands, a brick home built in 1890 in rural Orange County near Durham County. It also would finance construction of a wing to house patients, and renovation of a -barn to serve as offices. The remaining $300,000 would be used fur an endowment to finance the. cost of bereavement counseling aW care for poor people. The Major Campaign Review Board, a voluntary organization that helps plan and schedule capital campaigns of $500,000 or more, has given the go -ahead to the Triangle Hospice campaign. Capital Consortium Inc., a fund- raising consultant in Raleigh, is advising Triangle Hospice. ,Triangle Hospice, located in Darhaln near South Square Mall. ci'i'tploys a professional staff of •_'3 piWple and has a volunteer staff o1' niore than 150 people, Its annual htrdget is about $1.4 million- The Meadowlands in Orange County is destined to be home to Triangle Hospice, which is raising $2 million in capital campaign Martha G. Peck, executive di- rector of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund in Research Triangle Park, has been re- elected chairman of the board of trustees of the South- eastern Council of Foundations. The council, an affiliate of the Council on Foundations in Wash- ington, is a voluntary member- ship association of charitable do- nor organizations. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund is the endowment of Burroughs Wellcome Co., the pharmaceutical company in RTP.
