2 ....
4
MEMORANDU -M
TO: Orange county Board of Commissioners
Moses Carey, Chair
FROM: Jean Bolduc, chair - Human Relations Commission
DATE: May 11, 1992
SUBJECT: Attached Correspondence
By way of the attached correspondence, I am formally
requesting approval for the activities described
therein. Most importantly, I would like the board of
commissioners to vote for approval /disapproval on the
issue of the commission's becoming available to the
public through Kathy Baker's support. This will allow
us to monitor complaints on an ongoing basis, which we
must be able to do in order to fulfill our mandate.
The commission will not seek, at this time, to
intervene in complaints, but will instead serve only to
direct individuals to the appropriate oversight agency.
We mainly wish to raise awareness in orange county and
be able to track complaints and reports of problematic
activity. We will also plan to conduct educational
workshops in general subject areas, and fulfill our
commitment to report hate crime activity that is
reported to us.
Moses, we have already attempted to have the public
contact us by mail. It was less than a great success
and, more importantly, is exclusionary for those
individuals who can't write or read well. We need
this reporting mechanism very much, and would
appreciate your support. It would be most helpful if I
could have a response by June 1, 1992, so that the
board can -move forward on this.
As ever, please feel free to call me and discuss.
cc: HRC Board Membership
