Proclamation <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Chapel Hill - 967 - 9251/968 -4501 <br />PURPOSE: To recognize all the individuals, county staff and <br />volunteers, involved in providing emergency medical <br />services to the citizens in Orange County. <br />The EMS System in the County is a tiered response system. <br />Citizens access the system through the 9 -1 -1 center and can <br />receive pre - arrival instructions from the telecommunicator, <br />trained in Emergency Medical Dispatch. First Responders <br />(specialized trained firefighters) and law enforcement <br />officers usually arrive at the scene first to provide basic <br />life support while the ambulances are en- route. Ambulances <br />staffed with EMT's and EMT- Paramedics provide treatment and <br />transportation to the Hospital Emergency Department. <br />Many doctors, nurses, and other professionals donate many <br />hours to the EMS System; attending planning and review <br />meetings and providing guidance and training. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Governor James G. Martin has proclaimed May 10 through May <br />16, 1992 as Emergency Medical Services week in North <br />Carolina. The State Office of Emergency Medical Services <br />encourages all counties to recognize their services by <br />proclamation. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />The Manager recommends the Board of Commissioners to adopt <br />the proclamation designating May 10 through May 16, 1992 as <br />EMS Week in Orange County. <br />
