g. Orange County Habitat for Humanity, Incorporated, a strong local <br />affiliate of the national organization. <br />h. InterFaith Council for Social Service, operators of the homeless <br />shelter and chief advocates for the homeless population. IFC also <br />offers a program to prevent homelessness through financial <br />assistance to families that are at risk of losing their permanent <br />housing. <br />i. Orange Congregations in Mission, serving northern Orange County, <br />offering programs that prevent homelessness through financial <br />assistance to families that are at risk of losing their permanent <br />housing, and proposing a 35 -unit rental project in Hillsborough. <br />j. Joint Orange - Chatham Community Action Agency, offering a wide <br />variety of rehabilitation, weatherization, counseling, and financial <br />assistance to very low income families. <br />k. Culbreth Park Community Development Corporation, a nonprofit <br />formed to construct 50 housing units in Culbreth Park which has <br />purchased adjacent land for additional housing opportunities. <br />I. Triangle Housing Partnership, a private non - profit corporation with <br />support from local governments and the private sector in Wake, <br />Durham, and Orange counties whose goal is to facilitate the creation <br />of affordable housing opportunities through creating funding pools <br />for debt and equity financing. <br />m. Private lenders (especially those interested in achieving the lending <br />goals of the Community Reinvestment Act), public lenders like <br />FmHA, builders, realtors, and developers, whose assistance will be <br />crucial to the success of any housing initiatives undertaken in <br />Orange County. <br />Most organizations listed above work closely together on housing issues, <br />with OCHC and Habitat for Humanity sharing an office to provide a <br />central place for housing development activity in the county. Local <br />government staff work with the nonprofits on a regular basis, since most <br />nonprofit activities are supported with local funds. Communication could <br />be improved between housing development agencies and social service <br />agencies that provide support and empowerment for families receiving <br />housing assistance, a common concern addressed in the 1990 Act. <br />3. Coordination of Resources. With the creation of Orange Community <br />Housing Corporation, Orange County, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and <br />Hillsborough demonstrated the desire to cooperate among the several <br />jurisdictions to provide the best housing assistance that will serve the low <br />and moderate income residents of Orange County. With respect to <br />coordination of resources, all agencies will continue our history of <br />communication regarding projects in progress, applications submitted to <br />35 <br />
