O R A N G E C O U N T Y <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 24, 1992 <br />i <br />Agenda Abstract <br />Item # <br />SUBJECT: 1992 JOINT PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULE <br />DEPARTMENT: Planning PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Carrboro Planning Director Planning Director X2592 <br />3/11/92 Letter <br />PHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732 -8181 <br />Mebane 227 -2031 <br />Durham 688 -7331 <br />Chapel Hill 967 -9251 <br />PURPOSE: To consider scheduling two Joint Planning public, <br />hearing dates for 1992. <br />BACKGROUND: The Joint Planning Agreement requires that Orange <br />County, and the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro <br />conduct a joint public hearing when amendments <br />to the JPA Land Use Plan and /or Map are proposed. <br />Joint public hearings are also required when changes <br />to the Agreement or Zoning Map for the Transition <br />Areas are proposed. <br />In the past, two Joint Planning public hearings have <br />been scheduled each year, one in the Spring and one <br />in the Fall. A public hearing calendar provides <br />staff as well as citizens the opportunity to develop <br />work programs and project applications in accord <br />with established deadlines and meeting dates. <br />Both the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro have <br />approved April 8 or April 15, 1992 and October 14 <br />or October 21, 1992 as possible hearing dates. The <br />Chapel Hill Town Council approved the dates when it <br />adopted its 1992 calendar. The Carrboro Board of <br />Aldermen approved the dates at its March 10, 1992 <br />meeting. The hearings would be held at 7:30 p.m. at <br />a location to be determined. <br />RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends that the Board of <br />Commissioners approve April 15, 1992 and one of the <br />two October dates for Joint Planning public <br />hearings. April 15 is recommended as a specific <br />
