General Statutes Mebane 227 -2031 <br />Draft 2/24/92 Public Hearing Durham 688 -7331 <br />Minutes Chapel Hill 967 -9251 <br />Draft 3/2/92 Agricultural <br />Districts Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />PURPOSE: To consider a proposed Voluntary Farmland <br />Preservation Program ordinance presented at public <br />hearing on February 24, 1992. <br />BACKGROUND: Since its re- activation and re- formation in 1990, <br />the Agricultural Districts Advisory Board has been <br />working on several important projects, including an <br />ordinance to formalize its existence and establish <br />procedures for establishing voluntary agricultural <br />districts. The proposed Voluntary Farmland <br />Preservation Program Ordinance is based on enabling <br />legislation contained in Article 61 of the N.C. <br />General Statutes. <br />The proposed ordinance would formally establish an <br />Agricultural Districts Advisory Board comprised <br />initially of seven (7) members which would have the <br />following powers and duties: <br />- Review and comment on applications for qualifying <br />farmland certification and designation of <br />voluntary agricultural districts; <br />- Hold joint public hearings with the Board of <br />Commissioners on public projects likely to have an <br />impact on agricultural operations within orange <br />County; and <br />
