O R A N G E C O U N T Y <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: March 24, 1992 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item # <br />SUBJECT: County Government Month <br />DEPARTMENT: Personnel PUBLIC HEARING: Yes —X No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />(1) Calendar of Events Eleanor Green, Extension 2556 <br />(2) Proclamation <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Chapel Hill - 967 - 9251/968 -4501 <br />PURPOSE: To proclaim the month of April 1992 as "Orange County <br />Government Month" and endorse activities planned <br />during the month. <br />BACKGROUND: The National Association of County Commissioners and <br />North Carolina Association of County Commissioners <br />encourage local governments to celebrate County <br />Government Week in an effort to educate citizens about <br />county government. <br />As noted in the Calendar of Events (Attachment 1), <br />there are number of county government activities <br />occurring in Orange County during the month of April. <br />These include a range of educational activities and <br />community outreach events. For this reason, it is <br />recommended that Orange County proclaim the month of <br />April as "County Government Month." A draft <br />Proclamation is provided as Attachment 2. <br />RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends the Board adopt the <br />proclamation and endorse planned activities. <br />
