Fikes <br />TELEPHONE NUMBER - <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Chapel Hill - 968 -4501 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To receive comments from the public concerning the FY92 <br />Community Development Grant Program. <br />BACKGROUND: The North Carolina Department of Economic and Community <br />Development is expected to announce in March the <br />availability of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) <br />funds for Community Revitalization projects. In order to <br />apply for funding, BCD requires applicants to conduct a <br />public hearing to obtain citizens comments prior to <br />developing the application. Comments received during this <br />public hearing will assist the Housing and Community <br />Development Department in designing a sound CDBG <br />application. <br />All CDBG activities must be carried out in a "neighborhood" <br />which has multiple needs which include the following: <br />deteriorated housing, water /sewer deficiencies, unpaved <br />streets or drainage problems. The higher the magnitude of <br />need identified in a particular neighborhood, the higher <br />the application will rank in the state's selection process <br />which is highly competitive. <br />The maximum amount of funding available is $1,000,000. <br />Applications will be due on May 15, 1992. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): <br />The Manager recommends receiving comments as information. <br />
