.3- 9 -'A <br />OLIVIA MILLER LUDINGTON <br />ROUTE 5, Box 396 -B <br />CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA 27514 <br />March 9, 1992 <br />To the Orange County Board of Commissioners: <br />I commend you for the goals you have set for 1992 -93, particularly <br />those regarding water protection, i.e.: <br />Watershed Protection - Goal: Implement state- mandated watershed <br />protection standards and classifications; <br />Optional Wastewater Treatment System - Goal: To develop a plan for <br />the use and control of optional wastewater treatment systems which <br />enables appropriate land development and protects the environment; <br />'dater Resource Quantity and Quality - Goal: Develop a long range <br />study and planning process to identify and address the impacts of <br />various land uses and waste treatment options on the quantity and <br />quality of the ground and surface water resources of Orange County <br />so that these impacts can be factored into the long term planning <br />process. <br />I am particularly pleased to see that you are concerned about quantity <br />and quality of ground and surface water_ Because we have such sparse <br />information in this field, there is a great deal of research which must be <br />done. Although a long range study will require a good deal of staff time, it <br />is a worthy project and one which can only benefit the residents of Orange <br />County. <br />These are laudable goals, especially in these days of increasing <br />Political and economic pressure to disregard the environment. I urge you <br />to adapt these goals as part of your FY 1992 ---93 County budget priorities. <br />Thank you for your consideration. <br />Livy Ludington <br />
