BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution establishing an Orange County Solid Waste Committee at their regular meeting, January 21, 1992. The Public Works Department subsequently began solicitation for members to serve on the Committee, with an application deadline of February 21, 1992. It has been recommended that the Committee be comprised of one member from each township and one each from the Planning Board, Board of Health, Economic Development Commission and Chapel Hill Solid Waste Reduction Task Force. Number of applications from each township are as follows: Cedar Grove - 4 Hillsborough -2 Little River - 2 Eno - 1 Cheeks - 3 Bingham - 5 Chapel Hill - 7 Applications also include those from members of advisory boards recommended by each advisory board chair. RECOMMENDATION: Manager recommends that Board of County Commissioners select members to serve on the Orange County Solid Waste Committee at this point on the agenda, or during the appointment section of the agenda. Manager also recommends that the Board provide review and comments on attached letters and authorize chair to sign.
