CHCCS have pursued a
commitment to purchase a 39.51 acre tract on Old
Fayetteville Road in Carrboro for $900,000, contingent
upon successful passage of a school bond during the
scheduled November 1992 referendum.
RECOMMENDATION:
The North Carolina General Statutes require that the
Board of Education of a school unit must secure the
approval of the Board of County Commissioners 'gas to
the amount to be spent for the site" before purchasing
a piece of land upon which to construct a school. The
Chair of the Chapel Hill - Carrboro Board of Education,
acting on behalf of that Board, has requested approval
of the Orange County Board of Commissioners to
purchase this site.
The Manager recommends that the Board approve the
amount to be spent by the Chapel Hill- Carrboro City
Schools for this 39.51 acre tract, subject to voter
approval of the scheduled November 1992 school bond
referendum.
