7.8 <br />Distribution of Land Use Plan Categories <br />RESOURCE PROTECTION AREAS <br />AGRICULTURAL PROTECTION AREAS <br />PUBLIC INTEREST AREAS <br />NEW HOPE CREEK CORRIDOR OPEN SPACE AREAS: New Hope Creek <br />Corridor O en S ace Areas include some of the Resource Protection <br />Areas and a Portion of the Public Private Open Space Areas which <br />were designated as significant and worthy of Rrotection <br />according to the New Ho a Corridor 012en Space Master Plan <br />completed in A ril of 1991. See Master Plan MaR in the <br />Appendices). The areas are part of a system oL open space in <br />Durham and Orange Counties along New Hope Creek and its <br />tributaries between Eno River State Park and U.S. Army Corps of <br />Engineers_ land north of Jordan Lake. This category_ is made up of <br />critical environmental areas such as stream beds,_floodplains, <br />steep_ slopes, and larger tracts of historic, educational, or <br />recreational value. <br />[See attached Revision to Eno Township Land Use Plan Map <br />following page 3.10 -17 in the Land Use Element] <br />SECTION 3.12 CHAPEL HILL TOWNSHIP, NORTH OF THE JOINT PLANNING <br />AREA <br />TOWNSHIP PROFILE: SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS <br />Natural Environmental Constraints <br />Cultural and Natural Resources <br />In northern Chanel Hill Township is a portion of the New Hobe <br />Creek 0-pen S ace Corridor which links the Eno River State Park <br />with the U.S.-Corps of En ineers' land north of Jordan Lake. <br />Elements of the corridor in this Rart of the Township are: <br />Rhodes Creek Wildlife Corridor in the 100-year flood lain from <br />south of Cornwallis Road to Old NC 10• <br />Bikelpedestrian trails along-NC Highway 751, Old NC 10 and <br />Mt. Hermon Church Road-; ---and <br />An unpaved nature trails alone existing roads within Duke <br />Forest. <br />
