STATUS REPORT
TASK FORCE FOR THE FUTURE OF HUMAN SERVICES
February 3, 1992
3
The Task Force for the Future of Human services is a
temporary ad hoc committee formed to advise decision -
makers on ways to enable the human services community to
become more pro - active and effective in addressing human
service needs throughout Orange County.
The Task Force began meeting in May, 1991, and has
been meeting monthly since then. Participants on the Task
Force represent the Human Services Advisory Commission,
Chapel Hill's and Carrboro's Human Services Advisory
Boards, the United Way Board, and the Association of
Community Agencies. (See attached roster.)
During the summer of 1991, the Task Force members met
to draft their mission statement and the job description
of the intern who will be working on the project. The
United Way and Orange County agreed to share the salary
expense for the intern. Margaret Henderson was hired to
fill the position and began working on September 16, in
time to attend the annual HSAC Human Services Forum.
The Task Force expects to present a final report to
the Commissioners by the summer of 1992. This status
report describes our efforts to date to accomplish the
four primary objectives of the Task Force:
1. Fostering agreement on a basic philosophy to govern
delivery of human services in the county.
The report on the 1991 Human Services Policy Forum
offers a draft statement to describe the vision of what
the human services system should look like, why services
exist, and what contributions providers can make. Once it
is finalized, this mission statement will guide us as we
proceed through the Future Planning Process.
The Task Force is working with HSAC to solicit the
input of human service providers to ensure that there will
be broad -based acceptance of the vision statement.
Page 1
