REVISION: 5.1 Every dwelling unit shall be supplied with potable water and have 24 --hour a day access to a privy or commode connected to a public sewer or other sewage disposal system approved by the Orange County Department of Health or the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources: Division of Environmental Management. PRESENT FORM: 8.1 Every dwelling unit shall be provided with natural light and ventilation by one or more windows opening to. the outdoors, as follows: (a) In dwelling units containing fewer than five (5) habitable rooms exclusive of kitchens, bathrooms, and water closets, a window or windows shall be provided in all habitable rooms. (b) In dwelling units containing five (5) or more habitable rooms exclusive of kitchens, bathrooms and water closets, a window or windows shall be provided in at least four (4) habitable rooms. REVISION: 8.1 Every habitable room used for sleeping purposes in all dwelling units shall have at least one window or skylight facing directly outdoors, unless served by other approved ventilation. IV. Add a section to Article 9. Minimum Standards for S ace Use and Location to include a requirement that smoke detectors be required in all dwellings. NEW SECTIbN: 9.4 Every dwelling unit shall contain an electrically operated or battery powered smoke detector within 10 feet of each sleeping area to warn occupants of the presence of fire 2
