This is <br />not to be construed as requiring water to be piped into the <br />dwelling unit. <br />REVISION: <br />5.1 Every dwelling unit shall be supplied with potable water <br />and have 24 --hour a day access to a privy or commode connected <br />to a public sewer or other sewage disposal system approved by <br />the Orange County Department of Health or the North Carolina <br />Department of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources: <br />Division of Environmental Management. This is not to be <br />construed as requiring water to be piped into the dwelling <br />unit. <br />III. Revise Article 8. Minimum Standards for Lighting and <br />Ventilation; Section 1 to correct provisions which are <br />incompatible with state housing standards. <br />PRESENT FORM: <br />8.1 Every dwelling unit shall be provided with natural light <br />and ventilation by one or more windows opening to. the <br />outdoors, as follows: <br />(a) In dwelling units containing fewer than five <br />(5) habitable rooms exclusive of kitchens, bathrooms, and <br />water closets, a window or windows shall be provided in all <br />habitable rooms. <br />(b) In dwelling units containing five (5) or more <br />habitable rooms exclusive of kitchens, bathrooms and water <br />closets, a window or windows shall be provided in at least <br />four (4) habitable rooms. <br />REVISION: <br />8.1 Every habitable room used for sleeping purposes in all <br />dwelling units shall have at least one window or skylight <br />facing directly outdoors, unless served by other approved <br />ventilation. <br />IV. Add a section to Article 9. Minimum Standards for S ace <br />Use and Location to include a requirement that smoke <br />detectors be required in all dwellings. <br />NEW SECTIbN: <br />9.4 Every dwelling unit shall contain an electrically <br />operated or battery powered smoke detector within 10 feet of <br />each sleeping area to warn occupants of the presence of fire <br />2 <br />
