department head may require his or her approval <br />for any Vacation Leave. <br />5.5.2 The scheduling of Vacation Leave must take the <br />department's operating requirements into <br />account. <br />5.5.3 Vacation Leave is taken in increments of <br />one -half hour (30 minutes). <br />5.5.4 A holiday is not charged as Vacation Leave when <br />it occurs during a period of scheduled Vacation <br />Leave. <br />5.6 Responsibility <br />The department head is responsible for maintaining <br />accurate Vacation Leave records, including the <br />verification of the Orange County "Leave Register" <br />provided monthly, and for the application of the <br />Vacation Leave provisions of the Personnel Ordinance. <br />5.7 Advancing Vacation Leave <br />Vacation Leave may not be advanced before it is earned <br />unless approved in advance by the County Manager. <br />5.8 Effect of Separation on Vacation Leave <br />5.8.1 Resignation, Layoff, Probationary Termination or <br />Dismissal <br />The employee is paid in a lump sum for Vacation <br />Leave accumulated to the date of separation, not <br />to exceed a maximum of 240 hours. If the <br />employee has taken more Vacation Leave than <br />earned, the employee reimburses the County for <br />all such leave taken. <br />5.8.2 Death <br />A payment for accumulated Vacation Leave is made <br />in a lump sum, not to exceed 240 hours, to the <br />estate of a deceased employee. <br />6.0 SICK LEAVE (Amended 10 /1/91) <br />6.1 General <br />6.1.1 The County provides Sick Leave with pay for <br />Permanent employees, both Full Time and Part <br />Time (regularly, scheduled at least 20 hours <br />each workweek). This includes an employee <br />appointed to a permanent position serving a <br />probationary period. <br />6.1.2 Temporary employees do not earn Sick Leave. <br />45 <br />
