5.3 <br />- Vacation or other personal reasons; <br />- Sick Leave with the approval of the supervisor; <br />- Absences due to adverse weather conditions if the <br />County Manager does not authorize the use of <br />Administrative Leave; <br />- Funeral Leave for relatives not covered by the <br />Funeral Leave provision of the. Personnel Ordinance; <br />- Religious observance. <br />Earning Vacation Leave <br />5.3.1 Each Permanent employee earns Vacation Leave <br />based on the regular work schedule and the total <br />years of Orange County service as a Permanent <br />employee. <br />5.3.2 The earning rate for a Permanent Full Time <br />employee regularly scheduled to work 40 hours <br />each workweek is as follows: <br />Total Years Of Vacation Hours Earned <br />Orange County <br />Service Per Month Per Year <br />Less than 2 8.0 96.0 <br />2 but less than 5 9.6 115.2 <br />5 but less than 10 12.0 144.0 <br />10 but less than 15 14.4 172.8 <br />15 but less than 20 16.8 201.6 <br />20 or more 19.2 230.4 <br />5.3.3 Vacation Leave earning is prorated for a <br />Permanent employee working a regular work <br />schedule other than 40 hours. The Personnel <br />Department calculates such a prorated leave <br />earning rate and provides it to the operating <br />department involved. <br />5.3.4 Vacation Leave is earned in any month during <br />which the employee works or is on paid leave <br />one -half or more of the work days in the month. <br />5.4 Accumulating Vacation Leave <br />Earned Vacation Leave may be accumulated without a <br />maximum until January 31 of each year. On that date, <br />any accumulated Vacation Leave in excess of 240 hours <br />is cancelled. The maximum amount of Vacation Leave <br />that can be carried forward to February 1 is 240 hours. <br />5.5 ARproving Vacation Leave <br />5.5.1 Vacation Leave may be taken only with the <br />approval of the employee's supervisor.
