2 February 1992
Notes and comments for the Orange County Commissioners:
Residents of Birchwood Lake subdivision were asked what issues
concerned them most, issues the county commissioners could address.
The question of door to door solicitation was the question of focus.
Three areas of major concern were "Personal Safety, Personal Property
and Privacy ". The elimination of door to door solicitation would
reduce to some degree, conflict in the areas of concern. There are
solicitations that are somewhat acceptable, charities and religious
groups. For the sake of privacy many would prefer no phone calls and
no mail. But for practicalities sake the issue best addressed by the
Commissioners is one of restricted access. Registration of all
solicitors and a direct line for complaints is a minimum request for
your consideration. A major request from all residents is your
continued support of the Orange County Sherrif's Department
neighborhood patrol and telephone requests for emergency assistance.
We greatly appreciate your consideration of these issues.
Lt
Douglas Tilden
100 Crabapple Lane
Chapel Hill, NC 27514
