Background and Demographics <br />The age of the respondents ranged from 18 to 90 with a mean of 44.1 years. <br />Approximately on& quarter of the respondents are parents of students currently in one <br />Of the school systems while another fourth Ire parents of former students. <br />These was an even split of male and female respondents. relative to race, 889' of <br />the respondents are white, trine percent black, and three percent "other" or refused. <br />Eighty -seven percent claim to have, voted in the last election. The Orange County <br />district residents stand out, with 95.0% participation in the last election. In both the <br />Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Orange County districts, 93% claim they would vote if the <br />- school bond referendum W= place. <br />A third of the respondents, 33.9%, consider themselves "active in school- related <br />issues," with parents of current students being the highest segment (68.0%). <br />Fifty -seven percent report. membership in "school - related organizations or citizen's <br />action committees."
