I D11 3� <br />Waddell asked if those areas indicated on the maps <br />were steep slopes and 100 -year floodplains. Cameron <br />responded yes, but that there are existing trails <br />and roads in Duke Forest that may be used by <br />pedestrians and bikers. <br />Waddell asked about the restrictions that would be <br />placed on the properties beyond those currently in <br />place. Cameron responded that for projects other <br />than those affected by the recreation requirements <br />in the ,joint Planning Area, the Staff would advise <br />applicants to contact the Friends of New Hope, <br />Triangle Land Conservancy and other groups that are <br />pursuing acquisition. <br />Waddell asked about the possible expansion of the <br />area for protection. Cameron responded that any <br />expansion of the area would require changing the <br />Master Plan and presentation at public hearing. <br />Eidenier noted that Jean Hamilton and Emily Cameron <br />had attended the New Hope meetings and she felt this <br />was an acceptable plan for Orange County. <br />Waddell expressed appreciation for Hamilton's work <br />on the committee. <br />MOTION: Gray moved approval of the Planning Staff <br />recommendations for the amendments to the JPA Land <br />Use Plan and Map and the proposed amendments to the <br />Orange County Comprehensive Plan and Map. Seconded <br />by Eidenier. <br />VOTE: Unanimous. <br />AGENDA ITEM #9: PLANNING BOARD ITEMS <br />a. Hillsborough Thoroughfare Plan Subcommittee <br />Presentation by Gene Bell. <br />This agenda item is to consider formation of a <br />subcommittee which will work jointly with a <br />subcommittee of the Hillsborough Planning Board on <br />mutually agreeable boundary reductions for the <br />Hillsborough Thoroughfare Plan. <br />The Hillsborough Thoroughfare Plan was adopted in <br />1987 by the Town and State Board of Transportation. <br />The County was asked to adopt it, but declined, due <br />largely to the extensive area of County jurisdiction <br />it covered. The plan area covers approximately 91 <br />square males whereas the town and its extra- <br />territorial jurisdiction cover approximately nine <br />
