Be in it. <br />We enjoyed meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones this <br />past Tuesday afternoon to discuss their interest in the <br />county building a playground in their neighborhood (Perry <br />Hills). We had scheduled the Joneses to speak before the <br />Advisory Council at our regularly scheduled meeting on <br />December 3rd, but they did not attend that meeting and we <br />rescheduled. <br />The Joneses are very interested in spear - heading a <br />neighborhood effort to build a playground on the county -owned <br />property (+ 2 acres) that was to be the Frazier Road Solid <br />Waste Collection Center. <br />We explained that the county Recreation and Parks <br />Department does not plan to develop any neighborhood parks <br />out. in. neighborhoods in the rural areas of the county. We <br />outlined that the county is focusing its effort and money on <br />larger community and district parks. <br />After some discussion, we came to the conclusion that <br />this neighborhood is quite unique, in that it is a very <br />densely populated and sizable rural neighborhood. We agreed <br />that there was a need for recreational opportunities within <br />walking distance for those children. In order to balance our <br />current policy of park development and our recognition of the <br />need for a playground in Perry Hills, we offer the following <br />recommendation to the Board of Commissioners: <br />If the +2 acres on Frazier Road is not going to be used by <br />the county for other purposes, we recommend that the property <br />be leased to their Homeowners Association (they have <br />indicated they are seeking to,establish one) for $1 per year. <br />We also recommend that the county provide park design <br />services to the group (MaryAnne Moore can do this) to assist <br />them with decisions about types of play equipment and safe <br />placement_ of same. MaryAnne should also provide information <br />to them about how to maintain their area in a safe manner. <br />Offices located at 300 W. Trvon Street. Hillsborough.
