BACKGROUND: The N.C. Historic Preservation Office (HPO) has announced the application period for 1992 Survey and Planning Grant Funds. Eligible projects include architectural and archaeological surveys, preparation of nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, and preservation plans. This year, an estimated $120,500 is available for survey and planning grants to communities or nonprofit organizations. Of the total amount, $68,000.is reserved for grants in communities that participate in the Certified Local Government (CLG) program. The remaining communities, including Orange County, may apply for grants from the remaining $52,500. Grant applications must be to the HPO by January 31, awarded in May, 1992, and June, 1992. Projects must 1993. completed and submitted 1992. Notice of the grant award was received in May, 1991, consultants to conduct the inventory were approved in October, 1991, and the
