Fikes <br />TELEPHONE NUMBER - <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Chapel Hill - 968 -4501 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Durham - 688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To approve renewal of an Employment Agreement with the <br />Executive Director of the Orange Community Housing <br />Corporation. <br />BACKGROUND: The Orange Community Housing Corporation (OCHC) is a <br />housing development non - profit corporation created upon the <br />recommendation of the county's low and moderate income <br />housing task force. This Corporation was formed in 1989 <br />and an Executive Director of OCHC was selected in 1990. <br />To assist this new corporation in the hiring of its <br />initial Executive Director, on January 7, 1991, the BOCC <br />authorized an Employment Agreement with the new Director <br />for a period of one year which expires January 7, 1992. <br />This Agreement enables the Director to be a contract <br />employee of the County and thereby, be eligible to <br />participate in the County benefit plan. The purpose of <br />this arrangement was to give OCHC time to investigate other <br />methods of providing benefit coverage for its employee. <br />The Board Chairman of OCHC has asked the County to <br />renew this agreement due the Board's inability to arrange a <br />cost - efficient alternative prior to January 7, 1992. <br />Renewal of this agreement will provide for continuous <br />coverage until a permanent arrangement is established. <br />There is no direct cost to the County with this arrangement <br />since OCHC finances all salary and benefits related to this <br />position. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): <br />The Manager recommends renewal of an Employment Agreement <br />with the Executive Director of the Orange Community Housing <br />Corporation for a period ending June 30, 1992 and <br />recommends execution of the Agreement after review and <br />approval by the County Attorney. <br />
