2
To demonstrate the continuity of this request with formerly identified needs, it r
is important to review the position requests for fiscal year 90 -91 which included
a Public Health Nurse I for the Child Health Program to improve our declining
rates of home visits. This position was not approved. However, mid -year State
funds became available in Child Service Coordination. Staff assessment at that
time was that the most critical need was for a Social Worker and a Clerical
Supervisor to handle case coordination and the associated paper work.
In 91 -92 budget, only a Community Health Assistant position was funded to handle
the load in the clinic dealing with sexually transmitted diseases. The need for
additional nursing manpower is resurfacing as the demand in the Child Health
Clinic has grown. From 1383 visits per year in 1989 to 2121 visits per year in
fiscal year 1991.
Therefore, the staff has proposed and the Board of Health approved the
establishment of one full -time Public Health Nurse I position which will be
allocated 50% to the Family Planning Clinic and 50% to the Child Service
Coordination program. Please 'see the attached New Position Request Form for more
detailed information..
The expenses associated.with the new PHN I position include:
DESCRIPTION STEP lA STEP 5D
Salary, Hiring Range (Gr69, S1 --5D) $26,879 $32,672
Fringe Benefits 6,471 7,224
Travel and Training 150 150
Mileage 70 70
Equipment 1,050 1,050
Total $34,620 $41,166
The new position description form has been reviewed by Personnel and classified
as a PHN I position.
