Telephone Number - Hillsborough - 732 -8181 Chapel Hill --967 -9251 Mebane -227 -2031 Durham -688 -7331 PURPOSE: To consider names for the new government services building currently under construction in Hillsborough. BACKGROUND: The recent good weather has allowed the contractors to make some excellent progress on the new government services building. Although completion is a few months hence, it is important to select a name for the building to facilitate ordering letters for the building by the end of January, 1992. The letters will be anchored to the precast concrete across the front of the building (see attached sketch). In order to minimize the possibility of the precast cracking when the letters are installed, anchor bolt holes to coincide with the intended placement of the letters are actually cast into the material when it is poured. The precast material will be constructed soon after January 31. Representatives from Hakan /Corley will be present to answer any questions you may have regarding the process. Attached is the Board's policy governing the naming of County buildings. The Staff stands prepared to provide whatever assistance is needed by the Board regarding this issue. RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board discuss possible names for the building and prepare to make a decision on naming the building no later than the January 21, 1992 Commissioners meeting.
