n <br />Since GIS mapping is highly accurate, routing and estimated <br />time of arrival information, for example, can automatically <br />be generated for use in the Computer -Aided Dispatch <br />operation. <br />Integration of CAD and GIS involves placing the two systems <br />in a technological environment to allow them to support . <br />dispatch operations and to allow communication between the <br />two systems. The CAD system should aid the dispatcher in <br />quick access to geographic information and the GIS should <br />provide easily usable quick response display of that <br />information. <br />The user of and integrated CAD /GIS system, however, should <br />see the system as a single, multifaceted set of tools that <br />perform in such a way that emergency operations are enhanced <br />and emergency personnel responsiveness is maximized. <br />II. Overall CAD /GIS Configuration and Facilities <br />The Computer -Aided Dispatch environment includes five <br />single -- screen computer workstations to be located at the <br />Emergency Operations Center and the necessary storage and <br />networking to allow these systems to interact and share <br />Page 4 <br />
