6 <br />requirements for emergency medical, law enforcement and fire <br />services and incidents. <br />CAD computer systems are tightly integrated with E911 and <br />dispatch operations with necessary computer entry and display <br />capability at dispatcher consoles. <br />Computer -Aided Dispatch systems support the process of <br />dispatching personnel and vehicle emergency resources from <br />their current location to a specific incident location <br />elsewhere. Since a primary emphasis of such a system is <br />related to locations and travel from one location to another, <br />CAD environments can benefit from any additional <br />functionality which provides better access to geographic <br />information. <br />Geographic Information Systems provide a visual and symbolic <br />presentation of maps and related location information. The <br />graphic elements of the computerized GIS map are related to <br />attribute data such as address, property boundary outlines, <br />characteristics of structures at the location or in the <br />vicinity. Fire hydrants, surface water and roadway <br />characteristics, along with numerous other feature - related <br />items can be included in a GIS data base for CAD system use. <br />Page 3 <br />
