1 <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. -V-=-- E <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 4, 1991 <br />SUBJECT: Health Department Fees <br />DEPARTMENT: HEALTH PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />HEALTH DIRECTOR'S OFFICE X2411 <br />1) Proposal to Increase Animal <br />Control, Rabies Clinic Fee <br />2) Proposal to Adopt Medicaid Approved TELEPHONE NUMBER: <br />Fee for the Insertion of Norplant Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />3) Proposal to Set a Fee for Orange Chapel Hill - 968 -4501 <br />County Veterinarians for Rabies Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Immunization Durham - 688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To adopt changes in the existing fee for rabies clinics, to adopt <br />the Medicaid approved reimbursement rate for the insertion of the <br />contraceptive, Norplant, and to adopt the fee for the provision of <br />rabies immunizations to Orange County veterinarians. <br />BACKGROUND: Pursuant to G.S. 130A -39(g) the Health Director has recommended <br />fees described in the attached proposals to the Board of Health <br />which approved them. <br />The rabies clinic fee proposal demonstrates that the cost exceed <br />the current fee of $4.50. However, the cost would be covered with <br />a rate of $5.00. <br />The proposal for the acceptance of the Medicaid reimbursement rate <br />for Norplant demonstrates that the estimated costs of $399.84 will <br />be well covered by the reimbursement rate of $475.00. <br />The proposed fee of $30 per dose for the rabies vaccine for <br />veterinarians covers the cost of the vaccine plus supplies. <br />All three proposals have been discussed with and endorsed by the <br />Budget Department. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the attached fees proposed by <br />the Health Director and approved by the Board of Health be <br />adopted by the Board of Commissioners. <br />
