4 <br />ANNUAL wORx PLAN FOR 1991 /92 <br />$4$,015 ALLOCATED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUNDS <br />FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY <br />A. Heighten awareness of Regional entity and of Triangle J <br />COG's leadership role. <br />1. Update and upgrade economic strategy and evaluate <br />infrastructure capacity impacting on the growth <br />potential of the Region and influencing how the Region <br />is marketed. <br />2. Improve regional cooperation among groups, both <br />professional and volunteer; including the Raleigh - <br />Durham Regional Association, individual chambers and <br />economic development commissions. <br />3. Promote information exchange among town and county <br />managers and with the COG Board, improve communication <br />and understanding among diverse and often competing <br />interests. <br />4. Convene quarterly (or semi - annually) the chief elected <br />officials of the Region's counties and municiplaities <br />with our state and Congressional delegation; The <br />purpose is to create a regional voice. <br />5. Serve a Legislature liaison function, as needed. <br />8. Undertake and continue projects and programs that improve <br />the Region's economic well- being. <br />1. Upgrade DQE programs to help local governments keep <br />vital or revitalize downtowns. <br />2. Expand Metro Map marketing efforts and increase sales. <br />3. Serve as staff to Study Group on Economic Impact of I- <br />40. <br />4. Explore legislative and other remedies for the <br />telecommunication problems for Extended Area Service in <br />the Region; assist local units with requests to the <br />NCUC. <br />5. Staff the Regional Telephone Task Force if needed. <br />6. Enhance access of local developers and manufacturers to <br />RTP corporate purchasing officers to promote local <br />manufacturing opportunities for suppliers. <br />C. Enhance the International image of the Triangle J Region. <br />1. Support The Research Triangle World Trade Center as <br />corporate secretary. <br />2. Maintain world trade contacts via the NCWTA, serves on <br />board of directors. <br />3. Support and promote FTZ #93 including subzone <br />applications, contact with U.S. Government and COG's <br />Rates, Tariff and Legal Review Board. Activate the <br />zone if toward is sufficient. <br />4. Promote the continued development of RDU International <br />Airport. <br />
