4Cv <br />9/18/91 <br />RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING BOARD <br />STATE WATER SUPPLY WATERSHED CLASSIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS <br />Recommended .Water SupR_ly Watershed Classifications <br />Back Creek Watershed: Recommend change to WS -3 <br />Cane Creek Watershed: Agree with WS -2 <br />Flat River: Agree with WS -2 <br />Haw Creek: Agree with WS -2 <br />Haw River: Agree with WS -4 <br />South Hyco Creek: <br />Recommend change to WS -3 <br />Jordan Lake: <br />Agree with WS -4. <br />Little River: <br />Agree with WS -2. <br />University Lake: <br />Agree with WS -2, also recommend <br />(Morgan Creek) <br />designation of CRITICAL WATERSHED (CW). <br />Eno River Basin: <br />Recommend separating the basin into <br />three sub - basins. The "Upper Eno ", <br />upstream of Corporation Lake (intake point <br />105.0) is recommended for WS -2 <br />classification with one current water <br />supply and two potential supplies. The <br />"Middle Eno ", between Lake Ben Johnson <br />(intake point 103.0) and Corporation Lake <br />(including the proposed Seven -Mile Creek <br />basin) is recommended for WS -3. <br />For the "Lower Eno" basin (from Lake Ben <br />Johnson through Hillsborough into Durham, <br />the Planning Board recommends that the Eno <br />emergency intake in Durham be protected as <br />follows. As a primary approach, the use of <br />vegetative stream buffers, as proposed by <br />by the Durham City- County Planning <br />Department is recommended. Failing this, <br />the Planning Board recommends that the <br />Lower Eno Protected Area continue to <br />be classified WS -4 - for the 10 -mile <br />protected area only. <br />Summary: upper Eno: WS -2 <br />Middle Eno: WS -3 <br />Lower Eno: Buffers, or WS -4 <br />The Planning Board also recommends that completion of special <br />watershed studies be used as the primary criterion for determining <br />whether other watersheds may qualify for CRITICAL WATERSHED (CW) STATUS. <br />
