1171gWw <br />From the Orange County Personnel Ordinance published September 6, 1990. <br />Attachment 2 <br />ARTICLE II <br />RECRUITMENT AND EMPLOYMENT <br />1.0 EOUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICY <br />1.1 Orange County is firmly committed to a policy of Equal <br />Employment Opportunity. This policy was adopted by <br />(NEW 1.3 the .Board of Commissioners in 1976, in accordance <br />REVISED) with The Equal Employment Opportunity Act 01 19721 <br />enacted by the congress of the United States, and <br />"Equal Employment Opportunity by State departments <br />and agencies and local political- subdivisions" enacted <br />by the North Carolina General Assembly. <br />The policy of Orange County is to foster, maintain, and <br />promote equal employment opportunity. The County <br />(NEW 1.1 selects employees on the basis of applicant <br />REVISED) qualifications and without regard to age, sex, race, <br />color, creed, religion, or origin. Applicants with <br />physical handicaps will be given equal consideration <br />with other applicants for positions in which their <br />physical handicaps do not represent unreasonable <br />barriers to satisfactory performance of duties. <br />1.1.1 Discrimination against any person in <br />recruitment, examination, appointment, <br />training, promotion, retention, discipline, <br />salary increase, or any other aspect of <br />personnel administration because of race, <br />creed, color, sex, age, national origin, <br />religion, mental or physical handicap, or any <br />other factor not related to merit and fitness <br />for the position is hereby prohibited. <br />1.1.2 Discrimination on the basis of age, sex or <br />physical disability is prohibited except where <br />specific age, sex or physical requirements <br />constitute a bona fide occupational <br />qualification necessary for job performance. <br />Prior approval must be obtained from U.S. <br />.Department of.Labor before establishing any age, <br />sex.or physical requirements. <br />1.2 In order to implement the County's policy of Equal <br />Employment, Orange County of February 1981, adopted a <br />(NEW 1.2 comprehensive Affirmative Action Program. that <br />REVISED) Program as revised from time to time shall be the <br />basis upon which Orange County's Affirmative Action <br />Policy shall be implemented. <br />1.3 The employment practices of Orange County will adhere <br />fully to the letter and spirit of this affirmative <br />(DELETED) action program guaranteeing equal employment <br />opportunity to all individuals without regard to race, <br />creed, color, sex, age, 11 national origin. <br />u <br />
