From Orange County Ordinance Published 9-6-90 <br /> ATTACHMENT 4 <br /> CURRENT ARTICLE IV SECTION 6.0 SICK LEAVE 14 <br /> F <br /> 6 . 0 SICK LEAVE <br /> Sick leave is a p:;vilege granted by the .Euard of County <br /> Commissioners; it is not a right which an employee may <br /> demand. Sick-- leave should not be abused . 7t is to be used <br /> as insurance for salary continuation in the event an <br /> employee is sick. <br /> 6 . 1 Sick leave with pay may be granted to an employee for <br /> F ended :�bsences..sue .to.. physical or mental illness or injury <br /> 3/5/90 which prevents an employee from' perfowming 'the •-usual <br /> duties . This includes disabilities resulting from <br /> pregnancy. Sick leave may also be used for absences <br /> due to medical and dental appointments or to care for <br /> an ill family member. For the latter purpose, a family <br /> member is defined .as spouses parents or children . <br /> 6.2 P_n employee unable to attend work due to any of the <br /> reasons listed above, must inform the immediate <br /> supervisor during the first half-hour of work on the <br /> day of illness . Sheriff Deputies , Emergency Medical <br /> Services employees, and Sanitation Denartme=t <br /> employees , or other County employees as necessary, must <br /> .notify the supervisor of illness prior to the time <br /> scheduled to go on duty. in accordance with departmental <br /> operating procedures . <br /> 6 . 3 The County may require a physician' s certificate <br /> concerning the nature of the illness and the employee ' s <br /> physical capacity to resume duties for each occasion on <br /> which an employee uses sick leave . The employee ' s <br /> department head will be responsible for the application <br /> of this Drovision so that there will be no abuse of <br /> sick leave privileges . <br /> 6 .4 Failure to report illness and imDroDer use of sick <br /> leave will result in loss cf pay and/or other <br /> discinlinary action . <br /> 6 . 5 For sickness in the employee' s immediate family <br /> requiring more than three ( 3) days absence, special <br /> permission must be obtained from the County Manager, <br /> considering the department head' s recommendations . <br /> 6. 6 cull -time permanent and part-time permanent employees <br /> wi11 earn sick leave according to their regular work <br /> week schedule: <br /> Hours Worked Per Week: 20 40 42 48 <br /> Hours yarned Per-Month -~ 4 . 0 8 . 0 8 . 4 9 . 6 <br /> Hours Earned Per Year: X8 . 0 96 . 0 100 . 8 115 . 2 <br /> 6.7 Sick leave is earned during env month in which the <br /> emnlovee works at least one-half the work days within <br /> 45 <br />
