r <br /> 6 <br /> COMMUNITY CHILD PROTECTION TEAM <br /> POLICIES AND PROCEDURES <br /> NATURE AND PURPOSE OF THE TEAM <br /> The Community Child Protection Team is established by the <br /> Director of the Orange County Department of Social Services <br /> in accordance with Executive Order # 142. The team is <br /> composed of community representatives who will meet on a <br /> regular basis to promote the development of a community—wide <br /> approach to the problem of child abuse and neglect . Team <br /> members will work together to identify gaps in services for <br /> abused and neglected children and advocate for necessary <br /> services to enhance the protection of children in Orange <br /> County. <br /> DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE TEAM <br /> The duties and responsibilities of the Community Child <br /> Protection Team include the following: <br /> 1 . To review cases in which — <br /> a . a child died as a result of suspected abuse or <br /> neglect and a report of suspected abuse or neglect <br /> had been made about the child or his family to the <br /> county department of social services within the <br /> previous twelve ( 12) months ; the purpose of such <br /> review shall be to identify whether gaps and <br /> deficiencies exist in the community child protection <br /> system and to assist the county director in the <br /> protection of surviving siblings. <br /> b. abuse and/or sexual abuse has been substantiated for <br /> a child under the age of five . <br /> C . there is substantiated neglect of a child under the <br /> age of 1 . <br /> d . Department of Social Services requests a review. <br /> e, a team member requests a review which is consistent <br /> with the review priorities established by the team. <br /> 2. To recommend and advocate for system improvements and <br /> needed resources where gaps and deficiencies exist. <br />
