GENERAL DESCRIPTION <br />a) Location and Character <br />The Cane Creek Watershed is a part of the Cape Fear Basin, and located in the southwest <br />portion of Bingham Township, covering slightly over 29 square miles. It is a rural area <br />characterized by low - density residential development and farmland. <br />b) Reservoir /Intake Sites <br />Cane Creek reservoir is located in the southern portion of the watershed and was <br />completed in 1988. It is owned and operated by OWASA, and provides water for <br />residents of Carrboro and Chapel Hill. It has a safe yield of 10 million gallons per day <br />(MGD), making it the largest reservoir in Orange County. <br />c) Affected Jurisdictions <br />The watershed is for I the most part contained within Orange County. A small portion <br />extends into Alamance County. All of the critical area under current regulations is in <br />Orange County.
