r <br />I: - I D, a . 0 51 ". -14i1 1 <br />I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION <br />a) Location and Character <br />The Haw River Watershed is part of the Cape Fear River Basin. The small portion of <br />the Haw River Watershed in Orange County is located in the southwestern corner of the <br />County and the southeastern corner of Alamance County. The majority of the watershed <br />is in Chatham County. This area is characterized by low- density residential development <br />and farmland. <br />The Haw River watershed is not designated as a protected watershed by Orange County <br />at this time. <br />b) Reservoir /Intake Sites <br />This area is classified as a water supply watershed on the basis of the Town of <br />Pittsboro's use of water from a river intake near US 15/501. This is currently <br />Pittsboro's only water source. There is no reservoir site associated with the watershed. <br />The protected area extends 10 miles from the intake point. <br />c) Affected Jurisdictions <br />Most of the watershed is in Chatham County.
