From Orange County Ordinance Published 9 -6 -90 ATTACHMENT 4 <br />CURRENT ARTICLE IV, SECTION 6.0 SICK LEAVE <br />6.0 SICK LEAVE <br />Sick leave is a Pnivilege granted by the Board of County <br />Commissioners; it is not a right which an employee may <br />demand. Sick leave should not be abused. It is to be used <br />as insurance for salary continuation in the event an <br />employee is sick. <br />6.1 Sick leave with pay may be granted to an employee for <br />Amended absences-sue to..physical or mental illness or injury <br />3/5/90 which prevents an employee from performing the usual <br />duties. This includes disabilities resulting from <br />pregnancy. Sick leave may also be used for absences <br />due to medical and dental appointments or to care for <br />an ill family member. For the latter purpose, a family <br />member is defined as spouse, parents or children. <br />6.2 An employee unable to attend work due to any of the <br />reasons listed above, must inform the immediate <br />supervisor during the first half -hour of work on the <br />day of illness. Sheriff Deputies, Emergency Medical <br />Services employees, and Sanitation Denartment <br />employees, or other County employees as necessary, must <br />.notify the supervisor of illness prior to the time <br />scheduled to go on duty in accordance with departmental <br />operating procedures. <br />6.3 The County may require a physician's certificate <br />concerning the nature of the illness and the employee's <br />physical capacity to resume duties for each occasion on <br />which an employee uses sick leave. The employee's <br />department head will be responsible for the application <br />of this provision so that there will be no abuse of <br />sick leave privileges. <br />6.4 Failure to report illness and improper use of sick <br />leave will result in loss - pay and /or other <br />disciplinary action. <br />6.5 For sickness in the employee's immediate family <br />requiring more than three (3) days absence, special <br />permission must be obtained from the County Manager, <br />considering the department head's recommendations. <br />6.6 Full -time permanent and part -time permanent employees <br />will earn sick leave according to their regular work <br />week schedule: <br />Hours <br />---------------------------------------------------- <br />Worked <br />Per <br />Week: <br />0 <br />42 <br />48 <br />Hours <br />Earned <br />Per <br />Month: <br />4.0 <br />_______.6____ <br />:sours <br />Earned <br />Per <br />Year: <br />48.0 <br />96.0 <br />100.8 <br />115.2 <br />6.7 Sick leave is earned during any month in which the <br />employee works at least one -half the work days within <br />: -1 <br />13 <br />
