12 <br />5.2 All vacation leave is leave with pay. Vacation leave <br />will not be advanced before it is earned. Cash <br />payments in lieu of taking vacation will not be <br />permitted. <br />5.3 Vacation leave that will exceed three consecutive work <br />days, shall be requested by the employee at least two <br />weeks prior to the date the vacation is to begin. <br />5.4 Vacation 'leave may be used for'sick leave purposes upon <br />the approval of the department head. <br />5.5 Vacation leave should be used for absences due to <br />adverse weather conditions if the County Manager does <br />not authorize the use of administrative leave; and for <br />funeral leave of distant relatives. <br />5.6 Vacation leave may accumulate to a maximum of thirty <br />(30) days or 240 hours. When the maximum has been <br />accumulated, no additional vacation leave will be <br />earned until some of the accrued leave is taken. <br />5.7 Vacation leave may be taken with the approval of the <br />department head, and must be taken in increments of <br />one -half hour (30 minutes). <br />5.8 Upon submission of an employee's resignation, the <br />employee will be paid for vacation leave accumulated to <br />the date of separation. Vacation pay will not exceed a <br />maximum of thirty (30) days or 240 hours. <br />5.9 At the time of separation, if an employee has taken <br />more vacation leave than earned, the employee must pay <br />the County for all extra leave taken. <br />5.10 For involuntary separation due to failure in <br />performance of duties, or personal conduct, accumulated <br />annual leave may be paid, given the circumstances of <br />each employee's case at the discretion of the County <br />Manager. <br />5.11 Accumulated vacation leave payments will be made to the <br />estate of a deceased employee for all accumulated <br />vacation leave, not.to exceed thirty (.30) days or 240 <br />hours. <br />5.12 Vacation leave for a Probationary Employee. A new <br />employee will not be permitted to take vacation leave <br />during probationary period. If denial of such leave <br />will create an unusual hardship, only with the <br />Manager's approval will such leave be granted; or in <br />the Sheriff and Register of Deeds office, with the <br />approval of the Sheriff and Register of Deeds <br />respectively. <br />44 <br />
