The extension would allow the existing contract to
continue from January 1, 1992, through June 30, 1992.
BACKGROUND: In 1983, the OCHD established a contract with the Department to
provide medical coverage for the Child Health Clinics. Since that time annual
renewals have been executed which referred to the 1983 contract document as the
basic agreement, while stipulating any revisions.
In the fall of 1990, the Department withdrew from the OCHD Child Health clinic
but continued to provide service to the Adolescent clinic. The Child Health
medical coverage was provided by an interim.contract with the Orange Family
Medical Center approved by the Board in October, 1990. Subsequently, in May
1991, the Board approved an expansion of the OCHD contract with the Department of
Family Medicine at UNC -CH to include medical coverage for the Child Health
Clinic.
It is advantageous to continue the contract with the Department of Pediatrics for
the Adolescent Clinic because of the successful Adolescents -In -Need Program,
operating from the Department of Pediatrics, and serving Orange County high
school.
Effective January 1, 1992, the OCHD and the Department wish to change the
structure of the contract from the process of annual renewal of the 1983 contract
to an annual contract system, similar to the agreement between OCHD and the
Department of Family Medicine.
Funds for this contract have been included in the approved 1991 -92 budget.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The County Manager recommends approval of the attached
contract and that the Chair be authorized to sign.
