c
B. Leave recommended classifications as are.
C. Consider a possible "split classification" for Haw Creek, if possible.
8. SLIDING SCALES FOR IMPERVIOUS SURFACES
(UNIVERSITY LAKE)
Issue
As mentioned earlier, University Lake watershed has special protection measures that differ from
the adopted state minimum rules. One of these measures is a sliding scale for impervious surface
limits based on lot size. Some of the proposed impervious surfaces appear to be less restrictive
than those proposed by the state. One question that needs to be answered by the state is whether
or not a "sliding- scale" approach could be used on a watershed basis.
Possible AlternafiM
A. Revise ordinances to reflect state minimum flat rate.
B. Request, on August 15, that the EMC consider using a sliding scale for impervious
surfaces similar to that used in University Lake.
9. UNC CONCERNS ON CAMPUS Il"LICATIONS
(JORDAN LAKE)
Iss
The University of North Carolina campus (in Chapel Hill jurisdiction) is concerned about
impervious surface limits that might be applied in the south campus area which falls within the
Jordan Lake protected area.
Possible_ Alternatives
A. Take advocacy role on UNC behalf on August 15?
B. Take no action (out of county jurisdiction).
70
